ABOUT PROJECT
Ahhh… to be in your 20's and full of creative energy ready to burst out into the world! Back in 2006, my talented musician friend Walter Rafael and I decided to create an alternative/indie rock album together. With just a concept and strong desire to fully immerse ourselves in music-making, we got to work. The chemistry was great, and we ended up creating thirteen whole songs with the help of our mutual friend, Glen Ashlee, who's an incredible songwriter. In fact, I met Walter through Glen while they were working on music together. A couple of their songs even made it onto the Transit Venus album.
Transit Venus? Yeaup, we were once called Transit Venus, an idea that came from delving into the fringe world of Mayan Calendar mysteries and 2012 conspiracy theories that the world was about to shift. Honestly, those years leading up to our album release and into 2012 did feel sort of magical.
Walter and I connected with a very cool producer and engineer named Jason Rubal, who I found through *drum roll* MySpace. He ran a studio in Pennsylvania where we recorded our chosen twelve tracks. I still remember the way that studio smelled—a sweet and woody scent I can’t quite explain, but it stuck with me in the best way. We hired an amazing drummer, Mark Bohn, who effortlessly recreated and improved our original ideas. For two weeks, we recorded all our parts and did all the things. We laughed, cried, and got annoyed during our short nights at the Days Inn we were staying at. Well… I was the only one who cried. What a time!
After much discussion and planning, we released our album on April 2008. As a band, Walter and I didn't last because life does what life does. Thankfully, we're still friends and often talk about completing songs we worked on for a second album that never happened. Those songs were special to us since we got into a groove by then. We might just…
Fun Fact: You can find related releases on our Bandcamp!
Our This Is single featuring a version with lyricist and rapper, Skyzoo.
Our Demos including Walter and Glen's original home recordings and our elusive 13th song, It's Not Easy.
Below are the original Transit Venus album cover and This Is single artwork, followed by some photos I took during our two trips to Seventh Wave Studio. Shout outs to Teddy for joining us on the second trip! His supportive and positive presence meant a lot during our creation of this project.
